As a complement to its main project of providing work space for
writers, each year The Writers Room schedules special events that
introduce new writing from our members, celebrate the books written
by our published members and provide useful information about the
nuts and bolts of the writing profession.
On Thursday, January 18th at 8 p.m., The Writers Room will hold a
collective book party open to the general public at the McNally
Robinson Bookstore in Soho on Prince Street, between Mulberry and
Lafayette. This party celebrates the books published by Writers Room
members in the previous year. Since our first collective book party
in 1995, Writers Room members have published approximately 40 books a
year. This party is open to the public.
In October 2006 The Writers Room will commence its 18th season of
readings that feature emerging authors who are members of The Writers
Room. Our readings are held on the third Tuesday of each month
(October through June) at the Cornelia Street Cafe on Cornelia Street
in Greenwich Village. For a complete schedule of events at the Cafe,
including the Writers Room reading series, please visit
www.corneliastreetcafe.com. Everyone is welcome.
 On
two separate evenings in September 2006, we welcomed Erin McKean,
editor-in-chief of Oxford Dictionaries, and Maya Rock, literary agent,
to The Writers Room. Ms McKean spoke to WR members about the reference
and research books critical to the writing profession. Ms. Rock spoke
to members on the role of the literary agent in a writer's career. Seminars
are available to members only.
